Ceramic Coating an Urban Defender – Protected with Performance PPL

This Urban Defender came into the unit on one of those proper miserable, rainy days — the kind where you’re glad you work indoors. While the weather was doing its worst outside, inside the unit was the perfect environment for carrying out a full ceramic coating safely and properly. That’s one of the big advantages of having a dedicated detailing studio. No moisture in the air, no contamination blowing around — just controlled conditions so the coating can cure exactly as it should.
Before any ceramic coating goes anywhere near the paint, the prep work has to be right. I started with a full safe wash and chemical decontamination to strip off road grime, fallout, and anything bonded to the surface. After that, it was time for machine polishing. Even though this Defender wasn’t old, the paintwork still had swirl marks and light defects that would have been locked in under the coating if left untreated. Through careful paint correction using dual-action machine polishing, I refined the finish, increased the gloss, and made sure the surface was properly levelled. Ceramic coating is only ever as good as what’s underneath it, so this stage is crucial.
One thing that really stood out on this Urban Defender was the gloss plastic trim. It was heavily swirled — and plastic can be even trickier than paint. It heats up quicker and shows marks more clearly. Using the right pads and compounds, I carefully worked the plastics to remove the marring and restore clarity without overworking the surface. It’s these details that make a difference. Proper car detailing isn’t just about shining the paint — it’s about refining every visible surface so the final result looks uniform and sharp.
Once all polishing was complete, every panel was wiped down to remove polishing oils and ensure a perfectly clean surface. Then it was time to apply Performance PPL ceramic coating. I worked panel by panel, allowing the correct flash times and levelling it carefully to ensure even coverage. With the rain pouring outside, the dry, controlled unit was ideal for curing. Ceramic coatings need stable conditions to bond properly, and having that indoor environment means I can guarantee the finish isn’t compromised by the weather.
The end result? A deep, glossy Urban Defender with crisp reflections and properly restored plastics — now protected with long-term ceramic paint protection. Performance PPL adds strong hydrophobic properties, UV resistance, and protection against everyday contamination, making future maintenance washes easier and safer. If you’re considering ceramic coating, paint correction, or professional car detailing, this Defender is a perfect example of why preparation, environment, and the right products matter
